UKCA & CE Marking

Technical Documentation, UKCA & CE Marking Support

The paperwork behind compliance is extensive - technical files, risk assessments, Declarations of Conformity, UKCA and CE marking. We compile and manage it all, so you're always audit-ready.

UKCA vs CE Marking: What You Need

CE marking demonstrates that a product conforms with the applicable EU regulations, and it remains the requirement for goods placed on the EU market. UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking is Great Britain's equivalent for products sold in England, Scotland and Wales - though the UK government has extended recognition of CE marking for many product categories. Which mark you need, and whether you need both, depends on your product type and where you sell.

Behind either mark sits a technical file: the documented evidence that your product meets the essential requirements of the applicable legislation. A complete technical file typically covers product design and specifications, risk assessments, test reports against the relevant standards, labelling and instructions, and the Declaration of Conformity that you sign.

Conformity Services determines the correct conformity route for your product, compiles the technical file, drafts your Declaration of Conformity, and makes sure your product is marked and labelled correctly. Where third-party testing or a notified/approved body is required, we manage that process too.

The result: documentation that stands up to scrutiny from market surveillance authorities, importers, and online marketplaces - and stays current as standards change.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need UKCA marking, CE marking, or both?

It depends on your product category and where you sell. Goods for the EU market need CE marking. For Great Britain, UKCA is the domestic mark, but CE marking remains recognised for many product categories. We assess your product and confirm the correct approach in writing.

What goes into a technical file?

Typically: a product description and specifications, design and manufacturing information, a risk assessment, test reports against the relevant standards, labelling and user instructions, and the Declaration of Conformity. The exact contents depend on the applicable regulations.

Can I self-certify, or do I need third-party testing?

Many products can be self-declared against the applicable standards, while higher-risk categories require an approved body (UK) or notified body (EU). This is exactly what our conformity route assessment establishes before any money is spent on testing.

How long must I keep technical documentation?

Generally ten years from the date the last unit is placed on the market. The documentation must be available to authorities on request - as your compliance partner we hold and maintain it for you.

My products were certified years ago. Am I still compliant?

Possibly not - standards are revised, and a file that was compliant at launch can fall out of date. We review existing technical files against current requirements and close any gaps.
